"Secular Organizations for Sobriety" (SOS) program | 12 step program | Non-religious
Posted by: GTAF - 11-14-2023, 06:58 PM - Forum: Recovery - No Replies

"Secular Organizations for Sobriety" (SOS) program. SOS is a network of autonomous, non-professional local groups that emphasize individual empowerment and mutual support. Here's an adapted version of the 12 steps from SOS:
1.We admitted we were powerless over our addiction - that our lives had become unmanageable.
2.Came to believe and accept that we could take charge of our own lives.
3.Made a decision to live a lifestyle of sobriety and to engage in actions that support this choice.
4.Made a searching and fearless inventory of ourselves.
5.Admitted to ourselves without reservation the exact nature of our wrongs.
6.Were ready to accept help in letting go of all our defects of character.
7.Humbly sought to develop a new, positive way of life.
8.Made a list of all persons we had harmed and became willing to make amends to them all.
9.Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.
10.Continued to evaluate our behavior and, when we were wrong, promptly admitted it.
11.Sought through meditation and self-reflection to improve our conscious contact with ourselves and to gain the understanding and courage to change the things we can.
12.Having had a spiritual awakening as a result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to others who might benefit and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

Lightbulb 10 Simple Mental Health Practices You Can Do at Home

10 Simple Mental Health Practices You Can Do at Home

Mindful Breathing:
Start your day with a few minutes of mindful breathing. Sit comfortably, close your eyes, and focus on your breath. Inhale deeply through your nose, hold for a moment, and exhale slowly through your mouth. This practice can help calm your mind and increase awareness.

Gratitude Journaling:
Take a few minutes each day to write down three things you're grateful for. Cultivating gratitude can shift your focus to positive aspects of life, promoting a more optimistic outlook.

Digital Detox:
Designate specific times to disconnect from electronic devices. Unplugging helps reduce stress and promotes a healthier balance between the digital and real world.

Creative Expression:
Engage in a creative activity like drawing, writing, or crafting. Expressing yourself creatively can be therapeutic and a great way to channel your emotions.

Daily Exercise:
Incorporate regular physical activity into your routine. Exercise releases endorphins, which can boost your mood and alleviate stress. It doesn't have to be intense; a simple walk or yoga session can make a significant difference.

Healthy Sleep Habits:
Prioritize quality sleep by establishing a consistent bedtime routine. Create a calm and comfortable sleep environment, limit screen time before bed, and ensure you get the recommended hours of sleep for your age.

Connect with Loved Ones:
Even if it's just a quick call or text, maintain regular communication with friends and family. Social connections are vital for mental well-being, and sharing your thoughts and feelings can provide valuable support.

Mindfulness Meditation:
Practice mindfulness meditation to bring your attention to the present moment. Find a quiet space, sit comfortably, and focus on your breath or a guided meditation. Regular practice can enhance self-awareness and reduce stress.

Learn Something New:
Stimulate your mind by picking up a new hobby or learning something new. Whether it's a language, instrument, or a new skill, engaging your brain in different activities can be both enjoyable and mentally enriching.

Set Realistic Goals:
Break down larger tasks into smaller, achievable goals. Celebrate your accomplishments, no matter how small. Setting realistic goals and acknowledging your achievements fosters a sense of accomplishment and boosts self-esteem.

  How did you recover?
Posted by: GTAF - 11-12-2023, 05:46 PM - Forum: Recovery - No Replies

I went to clear haven recovery in Waltham mass. I did remote addiction treatment. Intensive out patient. It’s a great program and will always recommend their services to anyone! I am now 13 months into recovery and don’t think to much about drinking anymore. Sometimes I will randomly at a stop light. “Just stop at the gas station and get a tall boy, no one will know.” Is what I hear in my head. I fight the urge everyday. I’m also a little better, everyday.
